Magnús Scheving is fully involved in teaching in Spain and Italy.
Aerobics champion Magnús Scheving has spent the last few weeks staying with his family on the island of Lanzarothe in Spain, the easternmost island in the Canary Islands. There he teaches gymnastics at international conferences of gymnastics teachers.
“There are Danes who have great facilities here, a very nice sports hotel with all the facilities, much nicer than Laugardalsvöllur, which hotel guests can use. “Linford Christie was training here, McTyson was here and full of famous athletes” said Magnús Scheving in an interview with DV.
He has been in Spain for a month, has been teaching for three weeks and then has a week off. He previously taught in Italy. The conference was attended by about a thousand gymnastics teachers from around the world, from most countries except the United States.
Magnús is also thinking about various other things in his sunny leisure time, for example marketing in Latibær. He is closing the circle, he says. The latest product from Latibær is a card that has sold over 10 thousand copies, a video game with a CD.
“I believe that Latibær is the end of it, so to speak. That material has been used in books, television material, teaching material for the Ministry of Education, video games and a computer disk that is being designed now. And then puppet shows, cartoons and more. In January, I think the promotional album will be ready and it will cost around ISK 20 million” says Magnús.
Magnús says that he could sell production rights in Latibær already. Four parties abroad had shown good interest and wanted to buy. It was not in itself necessary to produce the introductory CD, but he calculated the example so that with such a CD he would get a much better price for Latibær. Nothing to worry about, it would take time to promote and sell and wait for the right offer instead of taking the first one.
“The production is not ready until the foreign parties can be shown what it looks like” said Magnús. “I have been to conferences all over the world, in fifty countries, and then I have been testing this material on kids who I’ve been teaching. Then there are also teachers who teach other children. There seem to be two things that matter, on the one hand everyone seems to understand movement everywhere in the world and they understand love too. There is no need for language to come in. Kids seem to be able to assimilate this material very well.
I’m so reasonably optimistic about making Latibær a good product, I take a risk and hope that good people work with me on this. “Walt Disney must have hit me twice, I hope to get away with it” said Magnús Scheving.
