Turnover doubles between years.
The Lató economy, which is halfway through this summer, has turned over almost 2.2 million Lató compared to 1.2 million Lató at the same time last year.
Latibær and Æskulína Búnaðarbanki founded the economy in the summer of 2000. The currency Lató is for all members of Æskulínan. They are paid the corresponding amount in Lató and they deposit in regular money in Búnaðarbanki. The purpose is, among other things, to get children to realize the value of saving money, eating healthy food, exercising and engaging in constructive leisure activities.
This year is the third summer that the Lató economy has been operating. Holders of Lató can buy, among other things, fruit, vegetables, milk and drinking water. In Reykjavík, they can also pay with Lató for the bus and for access to the Family and Animal Park and to the city’s swimming pools. The same applies to several swimming places outside Reykjavík.
The Lató economy lasts until August 30, 2003 this time and ends with a successful celebration.
