Máni Svavarsson says that at this time of the year, gratitude is high to the large group that has been involved in the Latibær project over the years.
“Our collaboration with Maggi started when he started competing in aerobics and I made music for his shows, when he had new ideas on how to combine music and aerobics” says musician Máni Svavarsson, who has worked with Magnús Scheving on the Latibær project from the beginning. “Magnús started working on the first Latibær book soon after this and we decided to include a CD with exercises for the children with the book, so this was a kind of animated story. The first Latibær play followed and we have been working together ever since. It just slowly picked up and I do not really know how we ended up here.”
Máni says that there was a big change in the music when they decided that children’s music did not necessarily have to sound childish. “We aimed to make this a good pop song that parents could also enjoy. The music changed a lot when we focused on fun melodies and its lifespan increased accordingly.”
Máni says that the contract with Nickelodeon means that there is a lot of work ahead. “Of course, it’s completely new to start making TV shows, not to mention when it’s for the American market.”
Máni has not had time to realize what the agreement’s significance will be for him financially, but he hopes that the fees will start to count when the episodes air. “It has happened so fast that I have not been able to go look at that. Furthermore, Maggi and I have always been guided by the fact that while we do something fun, that we know is directly beneficial to people, we don’t worry about the financial side. Those issues just come automatically.”
