Stefán Karl Stefánsson has dreamed of playing in Hollywood since he was a little boy.
“There are many people asking if I’m on my way to Hollywood, but I’m just going up to Garðabær” says Stefán Karl Stefánsson about the Latibær adventure. Stefán Karl has now signed a contract to play Glanni glæpur in TV shows that are distributed by the station Nickelodeon Junior: “Hopefully this will create more opportunities for Icelandic filmmaking. Viacom runs Nickelodeon Junior and has studios in many countries around the world and now Iceland has joined.”
The people of Latibær have been very popular with Icelandic children and soon children all over the world will recognize Glanni glæpur, when it is planned to broadcast the show to 86 million homes: “Kids stop me on the street and want to hear Glanni’s lion roar. It is positive that they know the characters because then there is hope that the message will be understood. Some children are actually scared of me and just pee on themselves or run away” says Stefán Karl, who is now training hard to prepare for the TV shows.
It is not yet clear whether Magnús Scheving will play the elf, but it is safe to say that this is the biggest contract that Icelandic actors have signed: “I do not think that it’s a question if he should do it. He is in better shape than many who are 15-20 years younger than him, knows the elf well and has all his qualities. Magnús has unwavering faith in the project and does it with all his heart. This project is his child and it will not be easy for him to let go of it.”
40 episodes have been agreed upon and Stefán Karl is happy that they will be produced in this country: “I have a family here at home. I’ve dreamed of playing in Hollywood since I was little, but instead Hollywood just comes to my house. I am very grateful to Magnús for giving me the opportunity to take part in this adventure” says Stefán Karl in the end. You can still see the great actor at the National Theater because the play ‘With a Pocket Full of Rocks’ will be shown for the next four Saturday nights.
