LazyTown stands stronger than ever. The company's relatives are big-hearted and seem to have every reason to be optimistic about the business in the coming years. "We have just become part of the Turner group, which in turn is part of Time Warner. Those agreements were finalized late 2011, and the purpose, among other things, to bring on board an owner who has the right distribution channels," say...
It has been decided to show the episodes about LazyTown weekly on the American television station CBS, which is broadcast all over the United States, starting on Saturday 18 September. The representatives of LazyTown ehf. announced this last week, according to Ágúst Freys Ingason, managing director.
On Monday, the first LazyTown show will be shown in the United States with a subscription to Nick Jr. covering 91 thousand households. Two episodes will be shown daily every weekday or a total of 520 times a year. There will be a lot of reruns and Ágúst says it is suitable for children.
It is very unusual for episodes to be put on the program of the big stations before feedback is received on shows at the subscription stations, says Ágúst. It is in fact a great recognition of the content of the episodes and describes how optimistic the American buyers are about their price. With shows on CBS, there is much more opportunity to see LazyTown in an open program. In addition, the shows are shown on weekends when most children are at home.
Ágúst says they are very happy with the collaboration with Nickelodeon. It is the television station that other media companies in the world watch when choosing children’s content. Nickelodeon is like CBS and Nick Jr. owned by one of the largest media companies in the United States, Viacom International, and with broadcasting rights in LazyTown in the United States.
According to Ágúst, the aim will continue to be to expand, in all areas near LazyTown, then to other regions such as Europe and Asia. LazyTown employs about 130 people in the production of the TV shows and is expected to be completed by the end of next year. Ágúst says an exciting time lies ahead after the US premiere. Production continues and Magnús Scheving is the main ideologue in it. He is assisted by experienced people, including American screenwriters.
According to a press release from Nickelodeon, it is clear that Magnús Scheving plays a major role in the marketing of the shows. Ágúst says this in the spirit of the station’s practice, which bases its television material heavily on the intellectual property of individuals with drive. It is said that Magnús gave over 3,800 lectures related to health and won numerous aerobics tournaments.
