Where are you from? I live in Connecticut,...
“I saw an advertisement in the paper that there were auditions for the role of Stephanie. My friends and my mother pressured me to attend and I decided to go for it,” says Unnur Eggertsdóttir, a 17-year-old business school student, who recently got the role of Stephanie for the LazyTown festival.
Unnur takes the stage in the role of Stephanie for the first time on Saturday March 27, 2010, when the LazyTown festival will be held in Laugardalshöll. The festival is not only historic because Unnur will be revealed as Stephanie, but Magnús Scheving has declared that this is the last time he will play Sportacus on a live entertainment show.
Unnur is very happy with the new job, where several hundred girls of all ages applied for the role. “Suddenly they knocked on the door in my school class in Versló, together with the Icelandic radio station Bylgjan and the news show Iceland Today, and informed me that I got the role. I was waiting for a call for some time and almost thought that I didn’t get the role. But then they just showed up at school. It was really great,” says Unnur.
Big footsteps to follow
Unnur’s predecessor in the role of Stephanie was the actress Linda Ásgeirsdóttir, who had been played Stephanie for 11 years before she put the costume on the shelf. Unnur says he can imagine staying at least as long in the role. “It wouldn’t be boring.” Linda described it as one of the most fun things she’s ever done, so I’m really looking forward to getting started. There are big footsteps that I have to follow,” says Unnur, who expects that there will be a lot to do this summer. “I have to perform at all kinds of festivals and visit kindergartens, where I sing and dance and try to get the kids involved in the fun.”
The acting job is fascinating
Unnur is far from being a stranger to performing. When she was younger she played in the play Skilaboðaskjóðan (The message board) and this winter she was in one of the main roles in the Versló’s musical Thriller. She says she can easily think of pursuing acting in the future. “This is one of the most fun things I do, performing and getting to play different roles,” says Unnur.
She says that acting has undeniably taken time away from school, and Stephanie’s role will surely not help in that regard. “Sometimes it’s a bit difficult to put it together. But the school authorities have been understanding, or at least sometimes,” says Unnur and laughs.
