Sports legend Magnús Scheving plans to make a movie about LazyTown and plans to establish a restaurant chain under the same name, according to an interview that the British news site Telegraph had with Magnús and published yesterday.
Kjartan Már Kjartansson, spokesman for LazyTown, says the movie is in pre-production, but did not want to confirm whether a restaurant chain was in the works. “There are various projects in the preparation stage, but no decisions have been made about them,” said Kjartan Már in an interview with Fréttablaðið yesterday. “The movie is in preliminary production, but now all our work is to finish the next series.”
In the interview with the Telegraph, Magnús Scheving is said to be Iceland’s answer to TV chef Jamie Oliver, who has fought for better food in British schools. It also states that with the LazyTown episodes, vegetable and fruit consumption among Icelandic children has increased by 20%.
At the end of the interview, Magnús is said to be planning to open a restaurant chain under the name of LazyTown and that he would be willing to have TV chef Jamie Oliver join him. “I could take care of the exercises and he could take care of the food. I think we could make a good team,” the Telegraph quoted Magnús as saying.
The interview also states that the director Quentin Tarantino was so fascinated by the unique interaction of the puppets and real actors in the show that he visited the recording studio in Garðabær.
Filming for the second season of LazyTown is currently underway, but a total of eighteen episodes will be recorded for this series. The series is now shown in 103 countries and was recently picked up for broadcast on BBC2.
