Máni Svavarsson, the author of the music in LazyTown, has composed several new songs for a children's series that has been successful in Britain recently. The main character is Peppa Pig, and she has been one of the most popular characters of British children in recent years. “I think it’s very likely, we have a meeting with the publishing company Gut Records at the end of January, 2007, and then a decision will probably be made,” says musician Máni Svavarsson, when asked about the next steps in LazyTown’s musical expansion. As reported in the media at the end of 2006, the single Bing Bang (Time To Dance) single went straight to number four in the UK Singles Chart in its first week, December 2006, and remained in the top ten the following week.
“We were then in twelfth place in the third week and stayed in the top forty for four weeks,” Máni explains, and that is considered an excellent result. “I understand that the sales of a single in ninth place before Christmas are greater than the sales of the single in first place in the first months after Christmas,” says Máni, and now the final touches are being made for a new series in LazyTown’s studio in Garðabær.
“Our big album has also sold 120,000 copies and has gone gold, so this is really great,” says Máni. Due to the fact that Gut Records is an independent company, Bing Bang has topped the independent singles chart in the UK and it is clear that the representatives of the company have high hopes for Sportacus and company.
Máni says that this great success has not caused him to be showered with job offers. “I’m only on contract with LazyTown and I’m happy with it,” he says.
