Máni Svavarsson, the author of the music in LazyTown, has composed several new songs for a children's series that has been successful in Britain recently. The main character is Peppa Pig, and she has been one of the most popular characters of British children in recent years. Magni Ásgeirsson sings the new title song in the hugely popular TV series LazyTown
“I was given the honor of visiting LazyTown for a moment and humming a song,” says the musician Magni Ásgeirsson, who sings the opening song in the latest LazyTown episodes currently in production. The new episodes are called LazyTown Extra and will have a rather unconventional format, where they will probably premiere in the UK in September. Subsequently, the episodes will be shown around the world and Magni will be heard in all English-speaking countries. “Magnús Scheving surprised me once again. It’s not enough that he’s the most efficient man in Iceland, but it turned out that he’s a hell of a producer too, when it comes to explaining what he wants,” says Magni, whose song he sings is by Máni Svavarsson.
Popular in Canada
Otherwise there is plenty to do for Magni at the moment. “I have started practicing for the Queenshow with the choir of Fjölbrautskóli Suðurland. I’m a solo singer with a choir and I’m struggling to catch Freddie Mercury,” says Magni, whose work will be shown in the FSU gymnasium in Selfoss on May 21. “We are now only aiming for this one show, since this is a house of 800 people. But if things go crazy, this will definitely be installed again.”
Magni recently held two concerts in Toronto, Canada, with his band, where the concerts were part of the Iceland Naturally festival held in the city from March 10 to 16. When asked, Magni says that the concert went extremely well. “Canadians seem to remember me very well, as they watched Rock Star almost as much as Icelanders. Lukas Rossi who won is naturally Canadian, as well as J.D. Fortune who won Rock Star INXS is also from Canada,” explains Magni who does not rule out that he will play more in Canada in the near future. As far as Á móti sól is concerned, Magni says that a new album from the band is coming soon, and the members have already booked a recording studio in Denmark at the end of June. There is therefore no calm around Magna, more than usual. “I’m also always playing three to four times a week. I was even playing at eight o’clock this morning [yesterday morning], at school in Garðabær with my Birgitta. So there is plenty to do.”
